Already! Today’s weather is gorgeous but we’ve been in and out of a heat wave recently, it’s been rough. Printing these seasonal leaf invitations this week made me excited for the weather in a few months. This wedding up in Boston will surely capture autumn in all its glory.

The last part of my recycling effort has been printing on all the random scraps I’ve accumulated these past months (and years!). I’ve also been pulling out some old plates and inking them up again. This has been a fun experiment, and a great excuse to clean off my shelves.
If you’re at the Renegade Fair this weekend please stop by and say hi. Thanks for reading!

My second round of upcycling old overprints involves simply trimming them down into cool bookmarkers. I always try to keep some of these handy as an alternative to using bills and junk mail to mark the pages of whatever book I’m reading. I’m selling these for a song, it’ll just be nice to send them out into the world. More stuff later this week!

I’m so excited about next weekend’s Renegade Craft Fair here in Brooklyn. As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve always dreamed of cleaning out all my old sample boxes and re-purposing some old materials. And it’s finally happening! I’ll be working all week on creating new stuff from old stuff, and will post items a few more times before next weekend.
Today I am starting out with these re-purposed journals. I used old rsvp cards as covers and scrap envelope liner papers for the spine. These are blank journals with (roughly) 50 pages each. Hope you like them, I’d love some feedback if you care to comment. : )
PS: Making perfect bound journals is a little time consuming, but not too hard. If you’d like to give it a whirl, here’s a really great tutorial from photojojo.

When I’m setting up plates and ink, I often use the same card stock pieces over and over until the registration seems almost right - it saves a lot of paper and sometimes produces nice abstract images. I recently printed a series of butterfly images on a wedding invitation set, and after I was finished I thought the set-up proofs were almost as nice as the invitations. So I framed one. : )
If you’re at all interested in ‘abstract letterpress’, I’m going to be working on a series of these for the Renegade Craft Fair, at which I’ll be sharing a table with trusty studiomates Sesame Letterpress. Its something I’ve been wanting to try for a while - taking all my old samples and overprints and making new prints and postcards out of them. And book markers of course - my favorites. I’ll post some samples before the fair, but if you’re in town stop by on June 14th or 15th.

I’ve been off the radar all week, working on a very large business card job for one of my favorite companies, Etsy. The cards were designed in-house over at Etsy, and I love the knit pattern they created. With so many lines and details, it’s the perfect graphic for letterpress. I’ll be finished these in the next day or two, and will then be moving onto to a very special Fourth of July project. : )

I delivered this summer invitation earlier in the week for a couple getting married up at Bard College. I went to a wedding up there a few years ago, such a gorgeous area of upstate New York. The weather couldn’t be more beautiful in Brooklyn today, my window plants are basking in the glory… : )

It often takes a lot of time and set-up to get the registration and color right before starting in on a press run. Sometime I forget how pretty the set-up scraps are, until someone comes to the studio and starts pulling them out of the recycle bin. I decided to post some under a new category, ‘pretty mistakes’. Hope you like them!

A little late on this month’s card (illustrated by ongoing guest artist Jessi Klein), but I love this guy - a guinea pig on his way to work. Now available in my moontree etsy shop. : )

What an exciting week. Breck and I finally launched our joint-venture calling card project, Brooklyn Social Cards. The site has been up for a few weeks but we wanted to make sure the bugs were worked out before inviting people to stop by. From now on I’ll be handling all new business card orders through Brooklyn Social. Its a very easy way to order cards, and there is a great variety of styles in the collection - I hope you’ll check it out!
